I have seen many beautiful screen shots and positive reviews all over the web for Triazzle – so I was expecting something “pretty good” when I installed it. I was at the least very surprised to find that I was dead wrong. This game is exceptional. As puzzle games go, Triazzle is perfect in every way. The board is a triangle as are all of the puzzle pieces. Around the edge of the board, and on the puzzle pieces themselves, are halves of animals and insects. There are different backgrounds and different animals on each level. You can expect to see frogs, turtles, fireflies, and butterflies. You place the puzzle pieces on the board in such a way that the halves of the animals on the piece match the halves on the board. Then it’s just filling in the other pieces so that all of the animal halves match. Every time you match an animals two parts together – they come to life.
I have never been much of a puzzle person – in fact they frustrate me to no end. Triazzle is not that kind of puzzle. While it is very challenging, it is so incredibly soothing… nearly intoxicating. With it’s combination of brilliant colors, and ambient music – Triazzle sucks you right in. The controls are nothing to stress over either. One finger is all you need – just drag the pieces to the desired position on the board and let them go – to rotate them into place just tap the piece. Then if you need a hint – just touch the “hint” button and then tap the position you need help with. Triazzle will then show you which piece you need to put in that location. If the hints aren’t enough and you want to see the puzzle solved, just shake your iPhone. This will summon the Triazzle gods to solve the puzzle for you.
My favorite thing about this game is that it always saves your progress. I don’t always have a lot of time to sit down and spend playing a game. But with Triazzle I can play a few minutes here and there. When you exit the game and come back – no matter how much time has passed… your game is right where you left it. You can choose 9 piece or 16 piece puzzles plus 5 levels of difficulty: Kids, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and “surprise me” where the game picks a random level and puzzle size for you. Level 1 is plenty challenging so most people will not outgrow this game quickly if ever.
As soon as I began playing this game I was thinking to myself “someone spent a LOT of time planning this and working on the little details”. I mean there are a lot of great apps out there – but this one has every little detail covered. Then while checking out www.triazzle.com I found out why this is. Triazzle has been around since 1991 in one form or another from board-style puzzles, to computer games, and more. So it has had a long time to mature and be perfected, and now it’s the iPhone user’s turn to have this incredible game. The developer has also informed me of quite a few improvements they have in store for this game.
If you are a fan of puzzle games then you can’t live without Triazzle. If you aren’t a fan of puzzle games then you still can’t live without Triazzle. It’s just that good.
